The last SIGFA Tournament for 2022, the FISH TO THE MAX Boxing Day “Big Fish Bash” was actually held on Tuesday the 27th December. We had a charter that morning, so we entered our international anglers Joe and Lyndy from Aus' and gave it a go. It turned out to be a blessing, as Tuesday was the perfect fishing day for 15 boats and their teams of anglers to head out on the deep blue sea and get amongst the fish. Fish they did, with plenty of teams ending up not just fishing, but CATCHING.

Team Fua II was first off the mark, releasing a beautiful sailfish early. Then Team Amana and Team Shirley B both released feisty blue marlin just before lunch. Meanwhile Team Celesetina and Team Troppo were working their inshore marks for good rewards, landing dogtooth tuna and Spanish mackerel. After our weighmaster Brook had concluded the 12pm Roundup most teams were still in the hunt, with all skippers realizing that the points were close. Should they stick to their plans or start thinking outside the square. If they could put their anglers on a few more fish the tournament was there to be won.

Team Shirley B jumped first with another marlin nailing the lure running on the long rigger. But alas, the marlin won the fight. Then a wahoo hit the shotgun and after an almighty battle the fish was gaffed and in the cooler. They should be in the lead. Then, the 3pm roundup confirmed that Team Celestina had released a Giant Trevally and Team Lady Saele had landed a solid yellowfin tuna. Only 3hrs to go, this is going be close. All the boats radios went quiet as skippers kept their plans and their teams catches close to their chest. The final outcome will only be revealed after all teams have weighed their catches and their points tallied by the weighmaster at the end of the day.
